Five & One-Half

THE TWELVE MOST IMPORTANT THINGS DONALD TRUMP HAS TAUGHT ME (Thing No. 5):

Reality television must be even worse than I thought.

DJT comes from reality television. I never touch the stuff. I confess that I did tune in “Dancing with the Stars” once to watch Tom DeLay embarrass himself. That was enough for me in this lifetime.

I will tune it in again if Trump goes on. He should cut a swashbuckling figure in his orange jump suit putting his old salsa moves to work.

I volunteer as a photographer for our local community theater. I have opinions about politics and believe it should be every American's duty to become informed and participate in the discussion of issues. I began this blog to be able to stay in touch in ways I used to on Facebook. I deleted that account recently and hope to be able to share photographs and information relating to cultural and political events in our community. I am retired after a career in social work and post-secondary education.

  1. If he does, I will not be watching. You can fill me in. He has tried to tap dance around the truth for years and only succeeded in tripping over his feet, he failed at walking down a small incline. I don’t think the guy has a salsa in him. His jerky arm movements alone would eliminate him. But if he was on that Ellen game show, now maybe I would watch that.

You are the best, Tom Fowler. I enjoy your writing and miss your company in the office. Wishing you the best 2021 can muster.

    1. I so miss my days as an office ornament. You folks are just a joy to work with. AND, you would be the one who may be able to teach the Trumper a hot step or two. I have seen you teach more than a few fat, old men how to dance for stage. Most of them had engineering degrees, though. They could remember your routines.

  2. When asked about watching Reality TV, I generally lapse into engineer-geek mode
and cite the little-known Treichler Variant of Physics’ well-known Observer Effect:
If the camera is on, it ain’t Reality.

    1. I will repeat that in all caps so any of the president’s twitter followers will know it’s important: IF THE CAMERA IS ON, IT AIN’T REALITY. And with exception of this one instance, if it’s in all caps, it ain’t true.
